Popping sound from pass side
Recently I have been hearing a popping sound that seems to come from the passenger side of my '02 SLK320. It is random in terms of occurance and is not constant at all.
Has anyone had this problem? I thought that maybe since the weather is getting cooler, that there is something expanding/contracting causing the sound.
I seem to notice it most, when sitting at a red light. If it makes any difference mine is a 6-sp manual car.
Any ideas?
TIA
Shaummy

No..Generally not. I usually don't have a passenger, so I doubt that it has anything to do with it. I could try to reposition the seat, and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks

2009 SLK 55 AMG
noise
my noise was the passenger seat belt got wrapped around the seat adjust in the back position and just kept 'clicking' the seat.
the other popping sound i had was the trim inside from the roof right rear with top up. trim keeps popping out. will have it looked at at 'a' service

Thanks,
The noise I'm speaking of seems to come from outside the car. I originally thought it was the brake rotors or exhaust contracting or expanding now that the weather is cooler.
Thanks again,
Mark

SLK 320 (auto)
I too hear a popping sound (from outside), I have a 2001 SLK 320 automatic (no passengers), I notice it at stop lights, roof up.
I run short trips around, so my car doesn't get to heat up and I tend to think it may be related to the exhaust system (expanding/contracting like you said, maybe a heat shield?), I'm no techie on this stuff.
Let me know what you find out and I'll do the same if I find out.
