BAS/ESP Issues

I have a 2001 SLK230. The BAS/ESP warning light comes on after driving for a while, but resets after the car has been shut off. Just before the warning light comes on, my front right wheel seems to go into ABS mode (feels like it's going over a washboard and pulls hard to the right for a sec). My foot is nowhere near the brake pedal and I could be doing 40 mph - nothing aggressive. Coincidentally, none of this happened before I had the rear lamp assemblies replaced under recall a few weeks ago.

Any ideas? I sure don't want to go anywhere near a MB dealership....

Check sensor on front wheels, clean tone rings, replace brake sw under dash.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give it a try. Not sure how to check a sensor, but I've certainly read enough on other threads on how to replace the brake switch. Will let you know how it turns out....
