Interior Fogging

Ok...it's cold here (teens and twenties for highs) and I'm having a tough time keeping the windows clear. The heater is not set to recirculate and following the advice in the owner's manual just keeps the fan on high and gives me "portholes" to see through. In my old car I could turn on the air conditioner to dry the interior air, but that doesn't seem to be an option here. Has anyone experienced the same problem? I searched the posts and found there was a TSB for the C-series, but no mention of the SLK. Any ideas? Thanks.

Not sure what you mean..... i just turn on the front and rear defogger... the front one is fairly fast... the rear one is semi descent....

Are you having problems with your circulation of the car?

I dont have any problems with mine either. And the temperature here is also in the teens. You need to make sure your a/c is not turned off. If you turn off the a/c, the fogging will start. i.e. dont hit the econ. mode on your car.

It's not me...it's the car!

As you folks may have suspected, it was a problem with the fresh air vent. The dashboard switch and the computer both reported normal operation, but the mechanic verified that the door to the fresh air vent wasn't opening. No wonder I've been in a perpetual fog. Now, I have to wait for a service appointment to correct it...

did you also have the EC switch not lit ? Also you have to have the two heat controls set to full hot(they ckick into place) it should have still defogged the windows as long as the AC compressor was engaged.

Since the end of summer, I've been running in EC mode but I've not had any problems with fogging. In fact, I've not once had to actively "defog" the windshield and only a couple of times had to switch on the rear defogger.

Still waiting...

The defective part must be hard to get to because the dealer has had it for two full days and now wants it over the weekend and into next week. They said that the dash has to be removed to locate the problem. I just hope they remember how to put it all back together properly.

Anyone else think the rear defogger is useless? It usually takes about 1/2hr to defog (well, at least 15mins), which is about the time it takes me to get home from work. I guess at least I can see clearly when i back into my parking space
:p

Smile Fixed!

Wow...what a difference. The car was at the dealer for a full week and they replaced the recirculation servo and gearing along with an evaporation temperature sensor. It was 16 degrees when I left the dealer and 12 degrees when I arrived home over an hour later. No fogging what-so-ever! My feet were warm for the first time in this car and I enjoyed clear visibility all around. Now I see how comfortable this car can be on a cold night with heated seats and a warm cup of coffee. Thanks for all your input and help.
