Adding V60 Integrated phone AFTER the fact
I purchased a 2001 SLK320 Sport the day after xmas and it is an AWESOME head-turning ride. My question is, has anyone ever added in the integrated V60 cellular phone system AFTER the fact?
I called the parts dept at the local dealership and they said it would be almost $2300 just in parts, most of the expense coming from the fact that the Benz audio system is all connected via fiber.
Anyone know where to get all of the parts cheaper, or have an installation kit sitting around they'd like to sell?

Unfortunately, it's going to be expensive no matter what. 2001 models require a retrofit kit in addition to the installation kit and phone. I'm sure you can get the parts at least a little cheaper, but I doubt you'll pay less than about $1500 (add $400 for voice activation) unless you buy used parts.
BTW, the price has nothing to do with fiber optics. M-B phones were expensive in 1998 and prior years before they had fiber optics. MBUSA is just greedy. It wasn't until the 2003 model year that they lowered the price of a CD changer from down to a semi-reasonable $400. Before that, dealers were charging anywhere from $800 to $1200. The same CD changers have been available from MB dealers in Europe for about $300 since 1998.

I forgot to say that the only place I know that sold the parts at a discount was clairparts.com. They are a Mercedes dealer, and the prices are usually discounted 10 to 20%. I haven't checked their website for a while though.
