Looking to buy childsafe seat
I'm trying to find a good source to buy a MB childsafe seat for a small child (now age 3) which would work for a child's weight of 30 to about 60 pounds.
Does anyone have one for sale or know a good source to buy one?

For an SLK? I know when we bought our car the front pass seat has a sensor in it that will detect a special car seat (MB brand?) and will then disable the airbag. I have searched for any information on this special seat but have not found anything.
My guess is that since then (mine is a 1999), they have restricted car seats in the front seat and it should be avoided at all costs (or whatever cost you put on your child)

Dear Devonrex, thanks for your prompt response. I have not been able to find much written about MB SLK childsafe seats for used SLKs of our vintage (mine is a 2002) and there may be sufficient doubt about their safety in the marketplace that there is no "secondary market" for used seats. I appreciate your reply and your are right in suggesting that one should not take any chances where safety is concerned. Dick Horgan

Dick,
When I first bought my 01 I looked all over the place for the BabySmart seat, however, the only place I have been able to find one is at the dealership for around $400. Some may question my judgment, but I have just been using a standard child seat for my 2 yr old. If we were to crash, the front airbag would deploy (keep in mind that the side curtain airbags will always deploy), however, since he is facing forward and I have the seat positioned all the way back, I don't see how he is in any more danger due to the airbag, than just my reckless driving (It is my opinion that the majority of accidents can be avoided by meticulous defensive driving, which is why I always go the speed limit or below when my son is in the car).
Just one man's opinion.
