Bike rack/relibility
Hi all!
My name is Beth and I hang out in the c-class and off topic fourm most of the time.
I'm in a lemon law case with MB and I'm thinking about getting an SLK as a new car. I have two questions.
Can I put a bike, ski, kayak rack on a SLK with the top closed?
Also, how is reliability on this car.

hey beth, i saw you over at the c-class forum before...how long did it take you to get the check from lemon law?
Anyway, my slk is a 99 with only 12k miles and i have quite a few annoying issues. Nothing major but i am used to super reliable (hint hint lexus..:-) ) so maybe i am just too demanding. My issues range from the interior lights not working, to door trim falling off, and window not closing properly. They all appears to be common problems on the slk. In addition, based on my research, it appears that the 230 is more reliable than the 320. Other mb fanatics can confirm that.
As for the bike rack, i doubt you can fit one since the roof is quite short and there's no factory mounting pts. (my bmw 3 series have them on the roof)
Good luck on shopping for your next ride...despite all the shortcomings, i think the slk is a fun car.

2001 SLK320
Hi Beth-
I have a 2001 SLK320 (which was the first year it was offered). It's actually 3 years old and just turned 15K miles. I haven't had any major problems with the possible exception of a windshield crack that I'm concerned was caused by the roof closing (although I certainly can't prove it).
While I am quite happy for the most part I also used to own a Lexus and IMHO it was a little bit better made and engineered. For pure driving fun though I love it!!!

Beth, glad to see you've discovered more than the C-Class and off topic forums. The SLK230 is one of the most reliable new MB's out there, they're rarely in the shop. I've never seen the rack in the above picture installed on any car, so I can't say how sturdy it is.

Barely any problems with the 2001 SLK 230, quite reliable if i do say so myself... i've had a number of problems with my 2002 C-coupe...... the SLK is a lot more fun to drive haha.... don't tell anyone that.....
