SLK/R170: seats

seats
I read that the seats were redesigned for the 2000 model year and are that much more comfortable that the seats in the '98.
Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know if seat mounts/wire couplings are interchangeable across model years?

I've got the same issue. Just bought a 99 and there is little lateral support. I'd like to purchase a set of 2001 seats and install them in my 99. Does anyone know if this can be done and where a good place to find some might be?

My seats are not too bad once you get use to ensureing that you push yourself back into them.
They do however lack lumbar support, and this can give you a sore back after a long journey (2hrs +).

The seats were redesigned slightly for the facelifted SLK when it came out in March 2000. This was the 2001 model year in the USA.
I personally don't think the difference is worth buying a set of the new seats. I suggest you sit in a newer SLK and test it out first. If you plan on buying new seats, be prepared for sticker shock. I don't know exactly what they cost but $1500 each is probably conservative. The SLK32 seats are better than the regular facelift seats, but somebody checked on getting SLK32 seats and they were around $3000 each.
Try to find a set from a salvage yard if you can.
Also, if you have two-tone interior on your pre-facelift SLK, you're out of luck for finding a matching two-tone seat from a post-facelift SLK. All of the two-tone interiors were changed for the facelift.
