Chrysler Crossfire
whine from trans

hey guys, i dont own a mercedes but im helping out a cousing who has a chrysler crossfire (might as well me a MB ive been told its 80% SLK320) i asked around on the crossfire forums but they are pretty empty and i got no help.

ohh just to let yah know im a master certified technician at a chevrolet dealer

history on the car
2004 crossfire 3.2L v6 with the 5 speed auto
17,500 miles

ok so last week the trans started to whine above 2200rpm in any gear. it would also whine in park and neutral. so if you shut it off, the noise was gone, drove for about another 1.5 miles and noise is back.

so the next day its worse whining above 1700rpm same symptoms also went away when restarted but came back a little quicker.

and then the 3rd day it whines even at idle. restarting only last a min top.

so i decided to drop the trans pan and it was full of fine metallic particles, called up a buddy who works for chrysler and he said it sounded like the pump was going bad and the metal from it was clogging up the filter causing the whine. but he said it was only a guess

so i bought a new filter, and buttoned it up, 4 quarts of fluid and.... magic.... the noise it gone. BUT is it gone for good or it it really going bad???

thanks guys
