PSE or something different?

Posting this here as no response on the AMG side So my wife yesterday went to unlock her 2002 SLK32, and nothing happened when she pressed the buttons on the key. she unlocked manually and got in and started car, it basically started then shut off, she did it again and the same thing happened, and she had the start error on the dash and then the car would not even turn over. at the same time she noticed the lights flashing for the alarm (siren died along time ago). first thought was her battery was dead. called AAA they did a voltage test on battery everything was fine. So she had the car towed home. I did reseach and found the PSE and corrosion issue on a few differnt forums. I then pulled the PSE, which looks perfectly fine. no water in it at all, no corrosion.
But I figure that must be the failed part. based on what I have read in other forum posts. have looked all over the TB area for a used one just because, I know it would be easier to get a used one today. I purchased one with a little corrosion under the white and black connectors to try out, I cleaned up the corrosion and then put it in. Nothing, not even the alarm was going off. after pulling it back out I relized one of the pins on the black connector next to the white connector was completely missing, looks like it corroded off probably in the original connector. Also checked all fuses related to PSE and alarm and none are blown.

Sorry for the long rambling my questions are.
1. Does this sound like PSE is the issue?
2. Is there something else I could check?
3. If I purchase a new one is it plug and play or does it have to be programmed with a Star system?

Thanks in advance, I am about to pull my hair out. it is so great that MB decided that it was a good idea to make sure that the door lock system would keep the car from starting
