Into with issues :-(

Hello, I'd like to start by saying what a great forum this is and I'm glad I've joined as its been an interesting read so far. Unfortunately for me I have to introduce myself and my car with an issue already and I would appreciate any comment or suggestions so here goes.............

1998 slk R170 has been stood for 3 - 4 months over winter, now the battery is dead and the key wont unlock the car.

Using the key in the drivers door, it turns but nothing happens.

Using the key in the boot lock doesn't turn.

I've sprayed the good old "WD40" in both locks to death but with no avail now I'm running out of options. I would prefer if I didn't have to smash any windows so I'm just wondering if there are any tricks or suggestions I can try tomorrow.

I read the PSE threads and failures due to water but unfortunately I cant get to it

Any help would be appreciated and apologies for my first thread being one looking for help but thanks.

Maybe its the batteries in the remote. Have you replaced those batteries?

Got in!!

I managed to get in useing a method that I will not disclose on here. My only issue is now the car keeps going into limp mode. I've covered about 100 miles since getting into it, took it for a good run out to get the engine hot, tried booting it and it started miss fireing. After stopping and starting the engine it was fine till I put my foot down then it did it again am I missing something can anyone please help? Thanks

Is the check engine light on?
if so, have the codes read.

Thanks

Thanks Leapyfish, there's no engine light.......I feel like I may have bought a lemon however hope will be restored as I'm looking at it as more of a project. If the battery has been dead and the car has been stood for a few months is it a possibility that the ECU will reset and relearn the driving style of the car and this maybe why it is holding back? Just a theory before I take it to a specialist to have it checked out.

Have you considered a trip to the nearest dealer?

If you jumped it then drove it to get it charged, I would see if the batter will hold a charge. If the batter itself has failed, there could be electrical issues that won't be overcome even if the alternator is putting out the required amperage.

Thanks

Yes, I've considered a trip to a dealer VGM911 but the point of the forum is to see if anyone else has had a similar issue, that way I may be able to source if its an easy fix or a uber expensive garage trip. But thanks to you all for the comments. The car seems to run ok till it gets to 4k rpm then it start missing badly until I turn turn the motor off then on again. I'm waiting for a engine code reader I will post the code when I have it and also let you know the outcome thanks

Looks like its the lateral acceleration sensor sender that might be the issue £95 to replace. The BAS/ESP light is on which is a sign that this is faulty.
