dual climate control

I just bought my wife an SLK230. (1998 model) It is perfect except for the dual climate control. The driver's side works fine, but the passenger's side blows hot air no matter what. I have checked fuses and the dealer has replaced the entire console to no avail. I know it is probably something simple....

Anybody have this problem, or know what I should check?

saseals,

I had this problem once on my former '99 SLK230. It was the heater control "dual valve". This valve is located under the hood on the passenger side of the engine.

Mine failed right after I pressure-washed the engine compartment. The high pressure forced water inside the valve and shorted the servo motor.

I don't know how much it cost or how hard it was to replace. The dealer fixed it under warranty (they didn't ask and I didn't tell).

SLK230 Dual climate control issues

Hey,

I've just bought a 1997 SLK230, and I can't get the dual aircon to work. If I set both sides to hot/cold, it will work, but I can't get it to be hot on one side, and cool on the other!?

I thought maybe there is a button to turn on 'dual aircon' or something, but I can't find anything anywhere!?

Any clues?

"hot on one side and cold on the other" is not really attainable. In a fully functional system, if you've got the A/C on with the dials turned all the way to cold on one side and all the way to hot on the other side, you'll find that the side that is supposed to be cold is fairly warm.

If you can set one side to hot and the other side to cold and you can feel a fairly big temp difference, then they're probably working fine.

hmmm... I don't seem to be able to get any difference out of the two sides. I think the passenger side aircon control doesn't do anything. I think the driver side seems to control everything.

One of 3 things

1. Duo valve (normal fault)
2. Dry soldered joint in controller.
3. Temp thermistors behind controller inside dual ducts

1st pic duo valve. 2 silver cylinders behind rh shock mount
Check both are pulsating. Default is open (hot)
You can swap leads to see if one or other changes output on heater.
2nd pic controller
3rd pic pos of thermistors

Since we are on the topic, my works fine, hot/cold, drivers/passengers side but the dial that direct where the air goes doesn't work. No matter where it's set it blows through the top vents. So if I set it to blow out the footwells it doesn't. Not a huge probem, just a slight inconvenience.

Check the Pin (s) are in their mating female pieces behind unit. Bugger of a job putting back in. You can feel behind radio.
