Question Short range for the remote locking

Hi,

I was wondering if any have had experience of that the remote lock / unlock range is very short. I have to stand within max 3-4 meter from the car for the key to work. I have 3 keys and one of them are new from Germany since 4 weeks ago.
I have installed the vario roof commander (opens the roof when pressing the opening key 3 times and closes the roof pressing the key 3 times) BUT this problem was still there even before the installation. Any one had same experience or know how to extend the range. Is there a receiver in the car (where?) that could be modified or any other ideas?

Thanks!

Yeap, I HAVE had and STILL have this problem. It's quite annoying, especially when you want to show off the BIPES, only to end up having to be right up on the car to activate. Grrrrrrrrr.

I have the same problem, but I don't have the BIPES remote roof, yet!

I find that at certian angles I greater range out of the key fob. At first I thought it was just my original key fob, but I ordered a brand new one from Germany and that one experiances the same short comings (no pun intended).

The receiver is under the dash, as is (I think) the antenna. It is not easily modified. The transmitter may be the culprit. I haven't been able to take mine apart without destroying it so I have not had a good look at it. Boosting its power (this may be illegal) or adding/modifying the transmitting antenna are possibilities.

Try holding the transmitter under your chin. Sounds stupid, but your body in essences changes the antenna characteristics. This almost always extends the range.

One solution I have been considering is to adapt the radio system in a remote starter. These typically have much greater reception ranges. It would mean replacing the Mercedes key fob however.
