CD Changer ?

I recently purchased a 2000 SLK230. I am wondering where I can pick up a CD Changer for my car. I noticed plenty of them on EBAY but was unsure of the exact model number I should be looking for. If you could please help out a new MB owner I would be much appreciative

Thanks

Jason

I really can't tell the difference between them all myself but it should be a fiberoptic CD Changer.
I would recomend you contact "Steve" the Europimp a.k.a. MBenzNL .

Cheers!

Here's what's written on the bottom of the CD changer in my '02 SLK32 AMG.

Part Number: A 002 820 7989
Model No. MC3198

This CD changer is the same for all US-spec '99-'04 SLKs.

If you are not planning to buy the M-B mounting bracket, then you can also get the changer from the W203 ('01-present C-class). It's functionally the same but in a smaller form-factor.

Note that the mounting bracket is specific to the SLK, the brackets from other M-B models don't work.

Any place other than ebay and the junkyard to get these things cheap?

The CD changer is correct. The Accessory part number B67822771 can be seen on the bottom. That is the correct accessory part number for the SLK fiber-optic CD changer.

However, the bracket and cables are for the A-class. You don't need the cables because all US-spec SLKs are pre-wired, but a bracket to protect the changer would be nice.

FYI, the bracket costs over $100 from a M-B dealer.

I guess there is a second source for the CD changers just as there is for the head units. My changer says made in Japan and has the Alpine logo on it, whereas the unit in the eBay auction says made in China. That would explain the slightly different different factory part number "A 002 820 62 89"

So if I bought that cd changer I would just pop it into the trunk right. All the wires are already there? Because $10 plus $50 shipping seems pretty cheap. I've already talked to the seller. So I would still need a bracket then for it? Or could I just jimmy rig a bracket in the trunk. Thanks alot for the help so far.

It's not quite that simple, but yes. The wires are there, but it likely won't work if you just plug it in. There are CD changer installation instructions at www.slk32.com. Read them and you'll understand what I mean.

You can make your own bracket. Some people have just used heavy-duty velcro to stick the changer to the side or rear of the trunk, or even mount it in the spare-tire compartment (not too convenient if you ask me, though). I think the instructions at slk32.com forgo the expensive M-B bracket.

The advantages of the M-B bracket are that it offers good protection for the changer it looks nice, but the disadvantages are that it's really expensive and relatively difficult to install.

Does anyone have a copy of the CD install instructions? I tried the slk32.com link but looks like the site is down...

I'm trying to pick up a CD changer too and it has this connector and I bet i'll be running into the same issue...
