SLK/R170: Problems with gas
I´m having problems with my 98 230 SLK, when I don´t use it for 2 weeks or so, when I start the engine, the car spills gasoline by the "carbon filter"?, for a couple of minutes. Then it stops leaking and the car runs perfect, no leakage at all, even if I go to the gas station and fill it up, it doesn´t spill anymore. If I use my car everyday it doesn´t happen anymore.
The guy in the shop told me that it could be that gasoline in the tank after a couple of weeks not using the car creates lots of gases, so when starting up the gasoline bomb creates a lot of pressure and gases have to scape someway amd that´s why it spills gasoline.
Has anybody had this problem before? Thank you all and sorry for my bad english.
For safety sake have it professionally checked, gasoline vapor is very explosive!
