reliability of SLK230
For a couple weeks, I have been playing with the idea of purchasing an SLK230 from the 1998-2001 range. I have looked at the Honda S2000 as well, but lately I think an SLK may be a more mature choice for a mature driver.
Are there any reliability issues with these cars? Are there any particular model years to avoid? any recalls? etc.
Also, what price range should I consider for that model year range? I'm thinking with the release of the SLK350, the older models may depreciate a bit once that car is released.

For price, it'll depend on the car's condition and mileage. You can go to this website and plug in some values to get an idea of price: http://www.kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book values).
I've had a 1998 SLK 230 for 3 years and never had any problems with it while I had it as a new purchase, and folks I know who own one now are okay with it. It's a great car.
You probably already have experience with this and might know better than I, but I'd probably choose the Honda over any Benz when choosing between older cars. From a maintenance cost standpoint. I think the difference in cost between the two brands is substantial.
Best of luck!

2004 SLK Special Edition
Aside from electrical and hardtop issues that some people have, the R170 SLK should be a very reliable car. I think one thing to consider is reliability verses longeviety. The SLK will probably require more attention than any Honda, but in 10 years I would expect an S2000 to have worn alot more. The engine in the SLK 230 is probably going to last alot longer than almost any other engine out there. this is all just my opinion but after spending alot of time on these mercedes forums im convinced that the SLK is one of the better MB cars.
