Normal Siren Behaviour for USA SLK320

Searching the forums and even facebook has been frustrating as I still do not know how my 2001 black benz is supposed to function. I have had it less than a year but never heard the siren chirp or wail or anything. The corner amber lights flash three times when I fob lock the car. The so-called netherlands option seems to be a factor; are USA cars delivered "silent" and the NL thing must be turned on with star system computer at cost of $$$ by dealer? I have not tried to scare the car into alarm mode by reaching in to locked car to try the glove box or open a door from inside. I am afraid it will start screaming and not shut up! What have other USA owners done to learn about this and what are the options? I have not opened the cowl cover to see if the siren is there or disconnected maybe by previous people. Thank you for help.

I own a 2001 slk230, I know my siren works because I set it off one time when my driver door lock didn't lock when the central locking system air line inside the door didn't lock the car.
I opened the door thinking I must have not locked the car that set the siren off, the other door and the trunk lid were locked but the drivers door did not lock.

I believe I pushed the lock and unlock buttons, or put the key in the door lock and twisted it, but I may have started the car, sorry I don't remember exactly what I did to shut it off.

I can tell you the siren is very LOUD, as a matter of fact its a high pitched ear piercingly loud noise you don't want to hear close up.

Hi Beeguz: this helps a lot. Can we assume your car was born in the USA and not a gray market import? Do you know if anyone ever had the computer changed to make this happen or is it in its original default mode? And does the same alarm that goes off when theft attempt occurs chirp when you fob lock it? Thank you.

Yes as far as I know my car was born in or for the USA market,
no I do not know anyone that had the computer changed
My car does not chirp when I lock or unlock the doors.

I think what you need is a owners manual, or a service manual.
You would need both to match the country the car was built for.
Sorry I can't be more help.

I do have owner's book which I find oddly written and not clear, maybe it's a translation thing. I don't think it says anything about a chirp confirmation; that is why I am asking on the forum what is normal. If your siren screams with a bona fide violation but does not chirp with fob lock command, I would conclude that is the USA default setup. People that get their USA cars to chirp are taking an extra step I guess with dealer programming. You are the first and only person so far on three forums and facebook to clearly and pertinently reply which I do appreciate.
