SLK/R170: ESP Light and the Dealer
I took it to the dealer for this reason and the codes seemed to indicate low voltage, which he attributed to a battery swap (before I bought it two weeks ago, so don't blame me) and the steering angle sensor, which he reset and cleared the codes. Could find nothing else wrong.
Well, again this AM the light came on, about 15 minutes after I started the car and came up to highway speeds.
I'll take it back cause they didn't fix it right, but if anyone has had a similar experience and successfully overcome it, let me know.
Thanks.
Disconnecting the battery causes the steering angle sensor to lose calibration. The procedure to calibrate is to start the car and let it idle at rest, then turn the steering wheel lock to lock. This should extinguish the ESP light.
I ran into this during BVRC istallation, which requires the battery to be disconnected.
I'm pretty sure this procedure is in the owner's manual.
Now, on to the crusise control. (I think it is the brake pedal switch next on the list maybe)
