Hello, My car battery was dead and bought a new one, but now the radio is asking for a code which i don't have because i lost the original papers. Please how do i get this code. My car is a 1999 SLK 230 Komp. I don't want to pay the dealer $200 dollars that he is charging me, is there any way to find out the CODE by myself?. Thank you very much for your kind.

Take it to the dealer, they'll look it up with your VIN # for you.

The dealer should be able to get it with now problem but if you have all the paperwork that came with the car when it was new, it should be in that as well. There is a gray credit card sized card, labeled "radio code card", with the code and it may be on some of the other paperwork as well.

Search on the net, then send your radio serial number to one of those Russian/Eastern European/UK people that will get it for you, and pay their price.

Well, the whole idea here is to make the radio useless to a thief. So, if you could figure out the code yourself, that wouldn't really be much of a theft deterrent, would it?

But the dealer can get it for free unless the radio has been changed. Very, very easy and if one dealer will not do it, there should be another one that will.

You can still get it for free and you have to do is get the serical number of the radio and they can type into VMI.
