I recently purchased the escutcheon that fits on the front bumper of my 1997 SLK230 R170. When I bought the car the escutcheon was missing. I was hoping that someone out the could help me with fitting instructions for this part. I am not sure how it fits onto the bumper. Is it attached to the existing bumper with clamps or brackets or screws...???

It looks like it should fit into existing holes or brackets on the grille, center it to the grille look for places it might fit.

Its hard to tell what this piece does on the front of the car, is it a trim piece or like a bumper guard of some sort?

It’s just a narrow trim.

Then it must be the top or the bottom trim piece that surrounds the lower grille between the fog lights

My 2001 230, had 3 or 3 pieces of trim that went all the way around the lower grille, I pulled off the side one at one time, so it was just a press fit.

That incident was over 3 years ago, so I do not remember much more about it, I sold my car I am looking for another.
