I noticed the fuel gauge on my 2001 SLK320 has started acting erratically, especially after the tank is refilled. Just after the refill (being careful not to top off), it fails to rise beyond empty at first, even flashes the empty warning indicator. Gradually it rises towards full as fuel is consumed, then seems to be accurate after that.
I don't think I was the victim of the high-sulfur fuel contamination that was reported here several months ago.
I heard of similar problems with Jaguars and BMWs. Is this very common in Mercedes, too?
