windscreen from r171.uk

Hey all,

I want to get the genuine MB windscreen for my slk350. I want to order it from r171.uk because the total with tax is $532. I understand many people have had concerns with them. I want to know if anyone has ordered this part from them. If so, how long did it take? BTW, I live in the states if that makes a difference.

How much does your dealer charge you? I bought one and it costs less than $532 (however, I am in Canada).

The list price for the genuine M/B wind screen in the U.S. is now $653. It is still shown on the M/B web site at $449 but my dealer said that there was a price increase last month.

They stated $700! Funny, they even offered to have it installed for a total of $900. They either don't know how easy it is to install or just want to rape me. Shoot, I'd buy in Canada if I could and have it mailed here! I just want a feasible solution without the feeling that I am getting taken advantage of.

I bought mine a little over a month ago for $449 less a 10% discount on a dealer coupon and I know it has gone up to over $600. In no way should you pay for installation...it is so easy and less than 30 seconds...paying for installation is getting taken advantage of...

Windscreen??? Glass or Mess

Is this the glass screen or the mess screen? I am looking for a glass screen similar to the one that Julien posted in his pictures on the forum.

If anyone know where to get ahold of the glass windscreen please message me.

The one from Mercedes is made of plexiglass. The quality is very good. I believe Carlsson windscreen is made of glass. But I think the reason why MB didnt make the windsreen in glass is in case of an accident, the glass will be scattered all over the place (or maybe they want to cut cost?).

My MB deler can only find the Mesh windscreen in the parts catologue. Can you assist me in finding a parts # from MB-canada, as that is where I am in Toronto area.

The mesh windscreen comes with the car upon delivery, right?

The plexiglass windscreen p/n is 6781-2224.

yeah, mine had the mesh windscreen on it when I picked it up, but in my opinion it's useless anyway. The mesh doesn't seem to do much at all to break the airflow, and it seriously reduces visibility. I took mine off after about three days and haven't put it back on since.

6-7-81-2224 DRAUGHT ST (List $653.00 U.S.) is the part you need.

I can't believe there is a rider in the MB accessories and options web pages which basically says that dealers can charge what they like (and therefore, presumably that the MB price is only a guide, or a minimum price). What a rip-off! I don't know any other car manufacturer that has that shady practice with the dealers. (Perhaps makers of higher priced cars do it; I wouldn't know.)

Hello Harris,

well, the Carlsson windscreen is made of SAFETY GLASS!!! This means highest safety for the passengers when it comes to a crash, do you agree?

Best regards

I don't agree. The MB one is plexiglass, which is a completely shatterproof material. I can't see how safety glass can be any better.

Windscreen $$$$$ Ouch!!!

I just got word from a dealer that has 2 windscreens coming to Canada and his price is $703.00 Canadian. Says everyone is on back-order and that is the best price.
Guess thats what happens when you buy a high priced car.

If that's the case then I'll be taking a nice drive down to Seattle to purchase mine
Friendly exchange rate + less taxes + no need to declare = score!

I think it is retail for USD620 in the US, plus 8.75% WA sales tax. Do you really think its cheaper?

I dont beleive it will be that much cheaper when you consider the cost of gas these days...+ tolls + your gonna want to eat.. when all is said and done it will work out to the same price in the end.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I have seen prices for the windscreen (in the U.S.) quoted in these forums alone anywhere between $400.00 and $700.00.

Believe you me that I will obviously ensure that the price of the part works out favourably before committing to a course of action -- but even based on Harris's figure of $620.00USD, the windscreen from Seattle would wind up a mere $30CAD more.

I know, for me at least, that if the dealerships around here will not be getting stock for the next couple of summer months then the $30.00 extra would be money well spent; and that is still under the assumption that I would not be able to work a better price than >$600.00USD south of the border.

jd604...

Who cares if it's a few dollars more? enjoy the trip... how often do you make it to WA? If it's available there and not where you are, then dig the drive, bro!

Question A Possible Alternative

I noticed this as new today.

http://store.yahoo.com/parkplacemotorcars/slkdrdep.html

I ordered the MB factory unit from these guys back when the OEM windscreen was it's prior outrageous $400+ price, and they came through with delivery just fine.

Other than that, I can't endorse this aftermarket unit or the retailer. (And $300 for a piece of plexiglas still seems out of line, but it's also gotta be way better than the net that comes with the SLK350).

Cheers!

...Karl
