Adaptive lights in non-sport package

As I understand it, the adaptive xenon lights (lights turn in the direction you are heading) is only available for the SLK350 without the sport package. I was told that the AMG kit that comes with the Sport Package prevents this option.

Has anyone added an aftermarket body kit and kept the adaptive lighting functionality? If so, it might be worthwhile to not purchase the Sports Package and go aftermarket.

On a side note, does it irk anyone else that the AMG rims that come with the Sports package is still only 17 in?

What they are referring to are the cornering fog lamps. When you turn the wheel the fog lamp on that side lights up to increase illumination. Unless I am mistaken, I don't believe the SLK r171 has swivel headlights like what you described. When you order the $4000 AMG sport package option this feature is deleted and it tells you so on MB's website (check out the Build You Own section).

Correct there is no mechanical movement. On base SLK350 it turns the fog on that side, as stated above. On the sports pkg and SLK55 the bumper/fascia design is different, and the fog light is different (more round, less oval). So even if you turned it on, it would not shine light far enough to the side.

I haven't seen a lot (any?) comments on the effectiveness of it. Not sure you should base your whole decision on the Sport styling pkg on that item.

I, too, originally thought the Active Curve Illumination on the 350 is like the light assembly will turn left and right like the W211 do. They both called Active Curve Illmination but they are totally two different things! "katika" and "blofin" are right, its just one foglight illuminates when you're turning left or right. I think this is a pretty stupid idea, especially during daytime. And at night, I dont see the real help of it. The foglights of the 350 are placed at an angle, they dont really "move". I think the AMGs dont have it because of the design of the kit.

...no matter what foglights the car has - there is barely any gain at all from the "cornering" foglights...

For those who don't have it but still want it - it is just a variable setting that can be activated through stardiagnose...
