Hi,
2 questions :
1. If iPod Kit released?
2. I tried to phone dealer HK, they said, the iPod kit need to pre-install
when you ordering a new car, existing car cannot buy a kit and install it.
Is it true?

False... the dealer should be able to install after you get the car...it's an aftermarket accessory through M-B.

The FAQ says it is DEALER INSTALLED with a retail of $299 with 1-3 hours of install time.
Print out the webpage and show it to your dealer... but if they are that ignorant, do you really want them putting it in?

The kit is not out yet.
It is/was to be released first with the 2006 ML (those SUVs are now just shipping delivered).
I have not heard of anyone yet that has an iPod kit in an ML, let alone an SLK350/55.
Anyone?

2) we have kits to install in the M-class. I have wiring harnesses to install it in the SLK as well but have not had anyone come by to try it out.

Prewiring for IPOD
Clearly, if you order Nav you get prewiring for IPOD on 2006 SLK's. Does this mean anyone witha 2005 must get wiriing (the harness Scorchie referred to) plus a kit? Is the kit the same for 2005 and 2006 SLK's? Maybe with the prewiring on the Nav equipped 2006 you don't even need a kit to get full use of the IPOD features?

When making my order I was told I'd need the full Comand to accept the ipod wiring, this was in February. I have just had my build confirmed for the middle of June (2006 model year) - this apparantly comes with ipod pre-wiring where as previous model years didn't.
The questions I would ask are, what is different between the two model year Comands and if pre-wiring is included then as previously noted why can't you just plug n play the ipod?
I'm sure the dealers will have all the answers

I don't believe there is "prewiring". What you need on the SLK is COMAND (anywhere in the world) or an Audio 20 (anywhere but the USA). This is required so that you have an auxiliary input to the stereo (the Audio 50 USA and Audio 50 APS do not have auxiliary input, so cannot be used with an iPod kit).
Once you satisfy this requirement, the iPod kit can be added. It is one wiring harness which goes from various places in the vehicle to the iPod control unit, and one cable from the control unit to the iPod itself.

I am not located in the states but am very interested to buy the kit and have it installed. I have Audio 20 with no mobile phone option. I do have CD stacker.

Does anyone know what the status of the add on option for the iPod in 2005 SLKs is? It was supposed to be out this summer, but I think it is still not available.
Has anyone with a 2006 with the option installed actually used it yet? If so, how well does it work? What do you see on the display?

iPod Kit Available
My dealer (in Tacoma, WA) called me on Wednesday to say that the iPod kit is now available for order. I put my order in. Hoping it will be ready to install next week. I post once it's in with a report on functionality.
Anyone want to buy a 6 CD changer? I'm removing that from the glove compartment.
