Windshield Distortion

Anyone else getting a foggy, cloudy tyoe film on the center of the windshield near the mirror from the center vent on the dash. When mine was in the dealer for 2 weeks service it sat in the sun for that time & it now had it. They cleaned it & it came back right away. They are contacting tech support & it seems they say mine is the only one. A guess they made at the dealership is that there is something in the vent that blocks the holes so you can't see in it & they want to replace with normal speaker cloth & they told me to not use the vent I paid extra for with the premium package.

Now that you mention it! Yes I have noticed the film under the rear view mirror. Strange thing is that I rarely drive with the air or heat on. I live in Miami and most of the time it is TOP DOWN!

I always thought it was from the carwash. But now that you too have a problem, it makes this interesting.

Complain to the dealer. The florida regional rep is involved. The more the merrier. Maybe they can solve the problem. The solution they gave me is to not use the center vent from the premium package. Mine was at the dealer for over 2 weeks for other problems that I was trying to lemon law on it & it was in the sun & that is when I noticed it. They cleaned it & it was back again by the next day. It may sound trivial but if they cannot fix the problem to my satisfaction in that they say they may take the vent apart & put speaker cloth in it & tell me not to use the center upper vent I will add that to my lemon law complaint because the fix is not a fix & it has 1200 miles on it. They have had it for almost 30 days total. But so far no satisfaction from MB-USA or the rep. They say it is not from the air on but a chemical reaction or gas from the material in the vent they think. Wish they would buy mine back & exchange for another then send mine to tech support to find the problem then cure all the others of it.

Also if you have the distortion open a case on the 800# for MB. It might get them to investigate faster if they get enough complaints on it. The distortion gets worse instead of better & hinders your line of sight out of the windshield.

I got that too,,, I just made it worse by taking my hand and wiping it... Finally I got a towel and everything is good now.

Got mine back this morning, the flatbedded it to me. Funny thing they had another SLK350 trailing behind the flatbed & it's windshield was distorted with it. On mine it looks okay now they changed the front speaker/vent cover with a different material under the cover, don't know if it will cure it, will see. Meanwhile they had to take the dash apart to get it & left the passenger seat reclined fully which indented the rool bar & left an impression on the back panel, I called them I want these items replaced. If you have the distortion which seems most in the sun will as I saw by the one training mine call the 800# & your dealer & let them replace the part.

Angry Just have enough with MB dealers !!!

A lot of the MB dealers are dishonest and disgusting. I paid cash for my slk350 and told them not to do any credit check. They did it without my knowledge as a condition to hold check.

How bad can these people get ? This one is in San Jose, CA starting the Bes.

I'll never buy anything from Beshoff!! When we went there to get more info on the '55, we were told that there's a 10 month wait plus possibly pay a 25k premium. Not only that, but another manager asked why we want the '55 and not the 350. We said, "Why not!?" Also, the sales guy denied that caspian blue was available for this car. He finally agreed when my fiancee pulled out the brochure.... Those guys are idiots!! And we're taking delivery of our '55 next week at MSRP.

Thanks for the response and glad to know that I am not the only one with the opinion. I talked to one of their sale managers on the phone and he was still giving me all the BS until I got so upset that I was almost ready to sue them.

These stupid AHs wrote up a credit appl. and submitted it with 9.9% financing dreaming that my check would bounce. No one would give me that kind of rate based on my execellent credit ratings.

I don't have that problem exactly, but like someone else said I never really drive it unless the top is down. I DO have a problem however, with four perfectly spaced circles on the windshield I can't get rid of. I'm sure they were left by the suction cups that placed the windshield in the frame, but I can not get rid of them. When I wash it inside and out they go away for a few days and then come back.

Anyone else having this problem? Or have any suggestions for super duper window cleaner that might work?

Wil, Zaino (among others) has a glass polisher/cleaner. Actually goes on kinda like a very fine rubbing compound. I would NOT use it on the inside as when you wipe the dry haze off you will get "dust", but your suction cup marks are probably on the outside.
