Question Option Options

I think I am about to order a 2006 and am vascillating on a few options:

1) I would like COMMAND, but do not want to waste the glovebox space for the CD changer--especially if there iPOD options. Suggestions?

2) I would really like to integrate my BT Cell phone rather than their $1K option.
a) anybody have experience with that
b) can their hands-free option be added later by dealer

3) I have not done the SIRUIS thing before. Is it worth it? Can it be added later as well?

Forgive the newbie questions, but this is my first MB plunge.

Vodil Hi,

1) Get the Comand without the CD changer - iPod will store all you want and free up the glovebox.
2) Pretty much got to go with Merc if you want full phone integration - If you are getting anything added afterwards you can pretty much double the cost and then start counting. I didn't get phone kit in previous Merc, but made sure I did in this one.
3) Don't have Sirius in the UK.....

The problem is if you think you want something, it will just bug you if you don't get it.

Thanks that is helpful.
Does the phone go in the center console? Between that and the CD changer is there any storage space left?

The phone goes in the center console yes. Pretty much takes up the whole thing. I personally don't believe the MB phone is worth $1,500 (that's approx for my 06 ML500). If you really want the system, get a UHI cradle from mbenznl.com that will work with phones other than the MHI phones from MB. Plus, you'll be able to upgrade as technology advances without paying $500 for a phone with "Mercedes-Benz" on the cover. It's not the price of the hardware, it the overly inflated phone price that kills me!

2006 changes courtesy of a poster on another board

Orion Blue and Everest Green are gone
Pewter (used on the "launch" edition) is available

Blue leather is gone
Brown Nappa leather is available

The sports suspension is NO LONGER available as a stand-alone option. You MUST purchase the AMG kit on the SLK 350 to get the sports suspension.

Ridding of the sport suspension as a stand-alone option is rediculous. Though I do like the look of the AMG package, MB charges way too much for the sport packages, especially considering the content. I would be willing to pay for the package if it were priced similarly to that of BMW's sport packages. Those are reasonably priced, and typically offer much more than MB's sport packages.

At the time I bought my car, there was no way to get the Comand (with NAVI, anyway) without the changer. However, the changer can be removed to give you back that space. I'm considering doing that now.

Yeah, you're screwed on the phone, but it is only available as a dealer installed option, so you won't pay any more for it regardless of when you order it. It was $1595 plus installation last time I checked.

Sirius rocks, but I'm in it for the talk radio, not the music. The music stations are just as homogenized and play the same crap you'll hear on just about any Clear Channel Communications station. However, I live in an area where talk radio is basically non-existant. I love it, and wouldn't have a car without it.

hope that helps...

It is less expensive to have the phone installed at the factory/VPC than the dealer (by about $700). Again, this was stated by the dealer for the 06 ML.

If you want a star on your phone, then that is correct.
The aftermarket options are better & cheaper, especially when you consider the price and limitations of the MB phone.

I have also heard rumors that there may be a BlueTooth aftermarket kit in a few months. That is what I want so I can leave the phone in my pocket or briefcase and not fill up what little storage there is.

Anybody know anything about in car wireless options on the way?
