cost of retrofitting nav in an 05' w/COMMAND?

My sis has an 05' SLK350 w/COMMAND (& 6-disc changer if it matters) along w/the upgraded sound system. I was thinking about retrofitting the oem nav in there for her as a gift. Before I ask the $tealership how much's parts & labor, I'd like to see how much it cost you guys. Also, what all was involved & was it an easy or a difficult install for your $tealership? Total time it took them? Thx in advance!

For USA cars there is a kit which bolts on. As far as I know it is twice as easy as doing a UK or AU car.

Thx for the info guys! Is it all bolt-on or what? If not then I'll probably get a quote from a couple local $tealerships. Thx!

LOL! With all due respect, you don't have a copyright to every username that involves the word, "Maverick".

I tried to pm Steve but for some reason, it said he doesn't allow pm's and/or he can't receive them. What's another way to contact him? Thx!

price

I asked the dealer and they offer me for 2300 with labour. It is basically adding the dvd disc so your command monitor will know that you have a navigation already. the price also includ ethe dvd that you have to buy for the changer. Is this price fix or we can get a btter deal?

Nothing MB related (sorry)
If the car has factory fitted comand in dash (like Maverick!'s sister's), you need to add a separate navigation drive in the trunk. Depending on what car you have (US spec, or ROW spec) it may or may not be difficult to add.

Exact price will also depend on what options the car came with from factory...

greetingz,

BigSis

BTW: Steve doesn't 'accept' PMs, because he already has a hard time replying all incoming emails...

Question on the Nav the dealer has not answered, when I turn on the headlights the screen gets darker, is this normal since on my other car a 350Z the screen stays the same day & night.

The kit price is $1400
The DVD Price is $275 for version 6.0

If you order the individual items the cost will be around $1062. You can find the DVD version 5.3 on ebay for about $30 to $50. It is the DVD prior to verison 6.0 that just came out 3 weeks ago. You can also check ebay for the processor or complete kit. Someone posted a new complete kit that sold for $750.

I purchased a new processor on ebay for $530, the DVD 5.3 for $50 and ordered the remaining parts from the dealer for $187.50. I installed it my self and had the dealer program it for $100. The total cost $867.5

Part numbers are as follows:
Bracket A1715453040 $67.
NAV Processor A1716930991 $875
Antenna Splitter A2108202489 $64.
MOST Cable B67823549 $22.
Screw N000000001114 2ea $2.25 ea
Screw N0910143006000 2ea $2.45 ea
Cover 17169309919E30 $24
Cover Clip 2019902929051 2ea $3.00 ea

You can find the instructions for installation here:
http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Mercedes...00_P-82-85-431/

It is normal to COMAND to switch from day to night mode depending on the amount of day light. You can also set it to remain on day mode.

It's working perfectly. At night (with lights on) you want the screen to be darker. Easier on the eyes. There's a setup in the menu, day, night, or auto.
Automatic is best and will adjust the brightness for day and night , automatically.

Great price! Super job piecing the system together and saving a lot of money. Great incentive for others to follow. I have the factory NAV. Don't use it a lot, but love the technology, look, and access when needed. Well worth the cost.
