I need help in determining if this is a good buy. I am not that familiar with this model, but my father is looking into purchasing a 2005 SLK 350 is for sale here in the Houston area. I haven't seen the car, but from what he says it has approx. 1,100 miles on the odometer, Black on Black, and it does not have the navi. The seller is asking for $44,000.

That's about right, they are normally $43000-47000 depending on mileage and options. The cheapest one I've seen is 2k miles, amg sports pkg, premium, entern w/ nav, all pkgs for $45K which is a bargain.

And about USD $80K in Hong Kong. I went to a used car show and to my surprise I saw pretty much my exact car, used, for twice what I pay for mine new.

Why is it so much more expensive in the UK? Considering Germany is just across the pond.

taxes, here in the usa, we pay very little taxes on cars, places like asian, they pay 100% taxes on cars, I'm not sure about england, but it's up there. I was told by a chinese tour guide that in 2008, China will pay for a car equivalent to what we pay here, so after 2008, there will be a lot of luxury cars on the road. Benz and Bimmers will be like kia's and scion's to them (compared to what they pay now), expect a lot more cars on the road.
