Knocking when stopped in SLK350

Has anyone had the experience where this is some sort of knocking when u are stopped at a red light or such? It sounds like its coming from the middle underneath of the car. It happens about every 5 or 6 seconds. Again, only when u are in drive (C or S mode) and are completely stopped.
Thanks

I took my car in for this exact reason. I was told that it was part of the fuel system and completely normal. I asked why I've never heard this sound on any other MB and the tech said it was because of the location of the pump on our smaller vehicles.

yikes

Ugh, I hope they can do SOMETHING. Its really annoying to sit there at a light and hear that thing as often as I do. I can't believe every other SLK has this same issue.
I will start complaining and see if it gets me anywhere.

I have not heard anything like that on my car yet. I would assume if its normal then I already would have. I will listen specifically for it.

Quiet as a mouse.

I have not heard anything while idling in gear. However on cold startup I hear, what I have been told, is the air pump making a slight clattering sound for about a minute or two.

interesting, i seem to have a similar problem. every time when i drive up to and
stop at the intersection of my street, i will hear a single knocking sound
somewher at the front of the car, it sounds like someone just knocked on my
windshield. the thing is, i only seem to get this noise when i stop at an uphill
position, i.e. i'm clmbing uphill. even more interesting, my driveway is very
steep (but only a bit more steep than the intersection of my street), i don't
hear any sound while driving up my driveway, and i don't hear any sound
while the car is parked in my garage which is flat.

um....

I am wondering if its the A/C dripping water on the headers. Ford Crown Vics have this noise and thats what it is on them.

Yes, and this knocking or "popping" sound comes from underneath the front passenger side of the vehicle and is more noticeable when the fuel tank is 1/2 full. It only occurs when the car comes to a complete stop. Anyway, I took my SLK 350 to the dealer last year and it turns out that this sound is coming from the pressure relief valve for the fuel system. It took a couple or trips back to the dealership and a mechanic actually riding with me to find out what this thing was. To fix the problem, the dealership replaced a filter located at the end of this pressure value which helped dampen the sound. If I try really hard I could still hear this sound but it not as bad.
