slk audio 20 and dension gateway 500
I know that most of us with the stock audio 20 system of the slk have a very difficult time with trying to find a solution that will allow the installation of an ipod without having to change the stock audio system. A possible solution is this http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php
I emailed dension about their product and received the following answer. If you are interested in the product, it would be good to try and contact dension and show that there is indeed demand for their product from slk owners; and that they should try and support the r171 slk audio 20. Email follows:
Hi Josef,
We have not tried on that car during the tests (It is so rare). But if you can send a picture from the head unit and define the differences I will try to answer to your questions.
The product will be available in August.
Regards,
Dension Support

I tried emailing them today at info@dension.com and sales@dension.com and both times the emails bounced.
What address were you using?
I want this for an SL55. They keep pushing back the release date...now its August, I guess

Buy the car, rip the standard audio out and replace with something better if you are an audiophile. None of the factory audio solutions are worth their money.
The gateway will probably not work if they have not tested it yet. The slk audio 20 is different to the one installed in the c-class and clk and that may be the catch for once more

Dension solution is OK, but it will not display track/title info on the steering wheel or NAV, only numbers. To me this is a deal killer, especially since I can burn all my compressed songs onto one DVD and use the Nav to play them with similar lack of information.

Sent an email to Dension yesterday. They replied that no products are compatable with the Audio 20. Not sure when they will have one. I guess the Gatewayy 500 will not work, or has not been tested. If any other options, other than fm, to attach the Ipod, let me know, please. Thanks

That is definately a sharp install. I have recieved the Parrot evolution for the audio 20. If in the next few months something doesn't come out for Ipod, I will look into putting an aftermarket system in the car. I have my dealer looking into a Comand retrofit for me right now, but I doubt I will spend thousands of dollars for a $300 MB Ipod install in the center console. Rather spend my money on other mods
