Wow, this is a long thread. Nice to see so many happy to help out a newbie. We have all toiled with those decisions AMG/SLK350/SLK280 ,etc. Good luck with the purchase and Mike Smith have fun on your ED - keep us posted so those of us at home can vicariously share and/or relive the experience.
I actually have no plans of selling the car anytime soon... and if they get rid of the SLR nose in the next iteration, then I will hold on to this even more...!

SLK Cup holders: a nuisance?
From this review, I got the following info:
http://www.autosite.com/content/shar...cle_id_int/684
"Funny thing about that rearview mirror – the windshield frame sits low, so that mirror sits low. Problem is, the cupholder sits at the top of the dash. Put a tall cup in the cupholder, and together with the mirror, you’ve got a big forward-view obstruction.
Get yourself a plastic door-mounted cupholder from Wal-Mart, drop the top, and visibility improves. "
http://www.autosite.com/content/shar...cle_id_int/684
On top of the dash are two retractable and adjustable cupholders that will accommodate large beverages. Unfortunately, they are located directly above the radio and climate controls, making both systems susceptible to drips and damage.
Is it really that bad? Should I plan on getting this cupholder from Walmart?

In general, across the SLK forums, I believe it's safe to say that the consensus was it's not a GREAT design. Some like it (or at least don't dislike it), many don't use it. Some of think it's stupid.
I removed mine, put in the European option (called a Pigeonhole shelf), install my Radar Remote display in it.
Then I got an Ultimate Cupholder II and have it below my right knee on the transmission tunnel.

I'm not a mod guy at this time, as I have started to become a car geek in the past year... I am getting the SLK350 because it suits my needs (wants?) better than the SLK280 (too puny) and SLK55 (too pricey)
I got the SLK350 with all the options and accessories I wanted, so I'm all set.

2007 SLK 350, 2006 Mini Cooper, 2003 GMC Envoy
The car, for delivery 3rd week in November, is:
Iridium silver with ash
P1 package
7 speed auto
Appearance package
6 CD changer
Msrp: $53,985
Because I am a good boy I am paying out of the door (not including Florida taxes) $49,985. The dealer's representative is a good boy too.
The deal, very friendly and funny, was performed through the phone and through Fedex.

When you say "MSRP", did you actually mean "MSRP + options" ?
It seems like you will be paying $4k below your total price, based on the amounts you mentioned. Good deal !!!

Msrp in my mind is the final price including the options selected.
Yes, the Msrp I quoted included all the options that I listed. And yes again I am paying $4,000 below the total price. Not bad for an order

Just got an email from the dealer:
"Just got assigned to a boat in Germany. Will be leaving in a few days. And then would know ETA. Will keep you posted."
I can hardly wait.. !

Finally got my SLK today... and I put a 100 miles on it already.. :-)
Still have to get used to the Tiptronic though.. everything else is just as good as I had expected.
Here are some pictures from the service area, as they installed my Illuminated Door Sills... apparently no one really gets those installed, so mine will be pretty unique.
Also, my car is Diamond Silver Metallic, so I don't see that around either.. most R171 models in my area are Black or Red, or for metallic paint: Iridium Silver. I've only seen one Diamond Silver in Fairfax.

Enjoy your new SLK. The Diamond Blue is unusual without being odd. Too bad the heated steering wheel option isn't available in the US. My hands get cold too when I drive with the top down in cold weather.

So... what's with the nav system..?
I tried to enter different residential addresses (townhouses, condos, homes, etc), and I seem to be limited to a range of house/apt/unit numbers instead of being able to type in a specific number.
Am I doing something wrong?

No, it's just the way NAV works, it's not very good.
