2006 SLK 280
Smart key problem

Hi everyone...i have a new 2006 SLK 280 that I bought not too long ago and I only have driven it for 1,200 miles and after washing it one day my keyless remote stopped working. I changed the batteries on both of the smart keys and still nothing changed. What are some things that I could check before bringing her to the dealership?

Sounds like a classic case of water saturation of the mechanical locking mechanism upon entering the door lock key orifice. Just kidding. Interesting situation. Obviously not a problem with you key fobs (X2). Can you lock the car from the inside with the door lock switch? Give it a day or two to dry up and see if it works. Maybe someone else can give you an idea. Good luck getting it resolved.

Play dumb, act like it just stopped working one day, it's covered under warranty and get a new one, otherwise, it's gonna cost you a lot if you tell the truth. It probably needs to be re-programmed by the dealer.

You washed one key but the other one also stopped working? Or you washed the car and both keys stopped working? Or am I not even remotely close to what happened? Something doesn't sound right.
