Run Flat Tires - Anything besides OEM?

Has anyone who has the Run Flat option found a different tire that will work with the SLK350? The original equipment Bridgestone Potenza RE050 Extended Run Flats get terrible mileage (around 15K on the rears without very hard driving), but more importantly they have terrible traction when it is cold and wet.

I would love to try another tire, but I want to keep the run flat option active.

After searching Tirerack.com for virtually every brand, and for each of the front and rear sizes (the rears 245/40 R17 tends to be the limiting factor), the only other brand and model of Run Flats besides the OEM Bridgestones that I could find were Goodyear Excellence:

Good Year Excellence at Tire Rack

Does anyone have any experience with these tires? They're a little more expensive than the Bridgestones, but I thought it might be worth a try. The tread pattern looks like it might be a bit better on wet pavement.

Thanks.
