the rear lights, they are LED's.

hmm i don't think they are LED for the 2005 right? i might be wrong..

but it seems to me 05 and 07 tail lights are sure different

I do not believe there has ever been a change to the rear lights. The only exception being the new MY09 will have SLK55's darker lights. The R171 has always come with LEDs.

In the manual to my 2005 (Page 380-381), it notes that the following lamps are LEDs:

Front additional turn signal lamp

Rear high mounted brake lamp

Rear tail, parking, standing, side marker lamp and brake lamp.

All the rest are bulbs. It does note however that if you see a certain indicator light on your display (page 363), that "The left (or right) tail lamp/brake lamp is malfunctioning. This message will only appear if a critical number of LEDs have stopped working. A backup bulb has been brought into use."

So there is a bulb in the tail lamp area. It is just a backup to the LEDs.

I'm guessing the rear fog lights are also bulbs. Not sure though.

According to the manual, there is only one rear fog lamp, and it is on the driver's side. That is what I understand as well, as the asymmetry of the rear lighting is supposed to make it more visible to drivers approaching from the rear in the fog. It is bulb type P-21-W, so it is not an LED.
