change low beam xenon bulb
I read about changing the low beam xenon bulbs is a pain in the neck without bumper removal.
because there is not much room to work with.
did anyone manage to do it without taking the bumper off?
if so, is there a DIY somewhere I can follow?

No need to remove the front bumper cover. I recommend jacking each front side, removing the wheel, and the front section of the wheel liner. You'll have complete access to the rear of the light assembly. Someone with knowledge could replace a halogen bulb through the engine bay, but it's a challenge. Can't imagine a true xenon bulb. Here a link that should provide some help, post six. http://www.slkworld.com/general-modi...er-lenses.html

Possible to do it without jacking up the wheels as well, but will be less room. bit of wheel turning, unscrewing, and you can get access to the light assembly from the tyre well.
Here's some posts that have some tips on what to take off, what to expect, etc..

the OEM fog light bulbs are 9006 or H7, depending on what options you have on the car. I think standard are 9006, but if you have the cornering light function/AMG styling or something like that, they are H7s... I don't know the exact options that change the lightbulb, but I do know some people have H7 and others have 9006.
My SLK280 has 9006.

found some more info that might be of use :
SLK fog lights vary based on model and package.
SLK350 Without AMG package WITH Lighting package (HID low beams) = H7 bulb mounted in an adapter.
