Spy Photos and updates - SLK AMG
Check out this article. The engine sizes and related HP give me the impression to speculate that these are the next generation of Mecedes engines - the Direct Injection Gas rather the current engines with 3 valve/2 plug. The engine sizes are all smaller than current ones with much higher HP outputs:

At my opinion, the next SLK will use the V6 3.2L 218 HP and the new 1.8L Kompressor 192 HP at the beginning. The AMG version will use the same engine the CLK 55 AMG.

If the information in the article is correct, I highly speculate those are the next Direct Injection Gas engines.
If the SLK debuts as a 2005 model the 3.2L engine will already be history. 2004 Models will probably see the 3.7L engine in the E350 and C350. The last model year for the SLK may be the 2004 SLK350.
The 3.2L with 221 HP has been relegated down to the German built Chrysler Crossfire for 2004.
