Another overpriced, underpowered roadster? No thanks. However, I do like the lines with the exception of the hideous front end. The F1-style nose belongs on sports cars, not cute little convertibles.
MB is updating engines for MY2005, so it will be a better power competitor to other car makers.

the new SLK will not be underpowered. MB's new 3.5 litre engine is going into this puppy, as well as other models. 4valve/cylinder, variable valve timing, better fuel economy, just to name a few. New specs are 272HP and 350newton meters of torque.
US versions will most likely have 3.2L motors (maybe the ML's 3.7L).
Unfortunately, I don't think the 272hp CGI motor will be available in the United States. The excessive amount of sufur in US gasoline is incompatible with the CGI motor's catalytic converters (unless they've found a way around this, which would probably involve de-tuning it somewhat).

Lemme dig up the article.

"The SLK 350 is powered by a new 200 kW/272 hp V6 engine delivering dynamic driving pleasure. "
"This includes – for the first time in this vehicle class - an eight-cylinder supplied by Mercedes-AMG."
"Mercedes-Benz has developed a new six-cylinder engine with around 25 percent more power (200 kW/272 hp) and 13 percent more torque (350 newton metres) for the SLK 350. The four-valve engine is one of the most powerful V6 units in its displacement class and its sporting character can be clearly distinguished by its powerful, vibrant engine note. "
"Maximum torque is available from an engine speed of just 2400 rpm and remains constant across a wide rev band extending up to 5000 rpm. This allows the car to be accelerated hard and permits rapid bursts of power. From a standing start, the SLK 350 reaches 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds (with the 7G-TRONIC: 5.5 seconds) and accelerates from 60 to 120 km/h in 8.7 seconds (with the 7G-TRONIC: 5.1 seconds)."
"This is the first time that Mercedes-Benz has ever produced a V6 engine with variable camshaft control on intake and exhaust sides. The outcome is enhanced performance and torque combined with improved fuel economy. A two-stage intake manifold, “tumble” flaps in the intake ducts and an intelligent heat management system add to the technical distinguishing features of this new six-cylinder engine. When combined with the option of a seven-speed automatic transmission, the new SLK 350 only consumes a meagre 9.9 litres of Super grade fuel over a distance of 100 kilometres (NEDC total consumption figures) and therefore, despite a significant increase in performance figures, still manages to be some five percent more fuel-efficient than the previous SLK six-cylinder engine with a five-speed automatic transmission." --> MB's new engine technology.
Those are some of the main highlights of the new SLK350 coming to the US.
Here is the entire article. Looks very good

No no....not diesel version. N/A 3.5 Gasoline motor.
Lemme dig up the article.
Check out this article discussing this type of motor which mentions how gasoline with excess sulfur (pretty much all we have here in the US) is incompatible with it's cats. However, it's entirely possible they've found a way around this, but I don't expect that it will still make the full 270hp.

Diesel is CDI, CGI stands for charge-stratified gasoline injection (aka direct injection)

But it says the SLK350 is coming to the US, as the old 3.2V6 will not be used in the future (MY2005) SLK's...

BTW, going over the article, it doesn't mention anything about CGI going into the SLK's 3.5 motor...just 4 valves/cylinder, variable camshaft control on intake and exhaust sides.

). I'd imagine there should be a non-CGI version, just like with the engine that is in the current C230s, but the trade off is a loss of some percentage of the horsepower generated (sorry I don't know the exact numbers).Guess we won't know for sure until MBUSA makes their announcements.
Neither the current nor the new SLK appeals to me, but the Z4 is hands down the most hideous car on the road today.
Lexus SC430?
You must be joking.
