I expect most of the US bound SLK350 cars to be heavilly optioned with the AMG Sports Package, 7 speed automatic, active headrests a/k/a neckscarf, etc. That should get the price up close to $50,000.00 Note the AMG package on the SLK350 is more than cosmetic with larger brakes, etc. That being the case another ten thousand for the SLK55 would be likely. I don't see the SLK55 as approaching the cost of a base SL500. Also keep in mind that the SLK55 does not have the horsepower of the SL55 and there really isn't going to be that much acceleration differential between the SLK350 and the SLK55 anyway. The pocket rocket set are going to blow the full extra $20,000 to get the Brabus conversion on the SLK55 and that is where you will see the big performance leap.

Autoweek corrects error
To Autoweek:
In a new Mercedes-Benz story, you wrote, "SLK350 will be followed in November by SLK55 AMG, powered by a supercharged 5.5-liter, 362-hp 376-lb-ft V8 - the first V8 engine offered in the SLK series."
Are you serious? Do you really think the 5.5L V8 needs supercharging to make 362 hp?

Yep, I somehow wrote supercharged when I knew it wasn't (no supercharged in the story I also wrote on page 10 of the same issue, or in earlier stories I've written on the car). Correction ran in the April 5 issue. Also, fyi, we don't get a six-speed manual in the SLK55 AMG, though that's what they told us at the product backgrounder.
