R-171 COMAND Questions
If anyone knows about the COMAND unit for the new SLK please help answer my questions.
1) Does it play MP3s?
2) Does it have the Birds eye view as well like that of the R-230 SL?
Thanks!

Command on SLK (Germany)
Well, I can only speak for the German version of Command on the new SLK.
First of all, there are 2 different versions. One has a bigger screen and provides a map, it's DVD based. The other still features voice navigation with arrows and street-names and such, but no map, and on a smaller screen.
Only the 'big' one plays MP3 at this time. Having said that, the MP3 decoder is an option in Germany to add to the whole package. It only started becoming availalbe to order last month and I don't know if they are actually shipping yet. The one I drove last month didn't have it.
In Germany, the DVD-based Command plays DVDs however. Not sure about the US SPec (it stops playing if you start driving over 5km/h or so...)
I am not sure what the 'fish eye' feature is you are describing ?
Best,
Dan

bird's eye
Oh, you mean the zoom-out map in Nav mode ?!
Only the big screen Command III has that (I BELIEVE that's option 320 in the US). THe small one is colour, but only displays arrows and street names - it's still pretty cool and quick though (Option 420 in the US?!).
In Germany they also dynamically move you around traffic and accidents etc, but I don't think this works in the US.
Cheers,
Dan
