Fluid Leaking from Front of Roof

I don't know if I have a major issue or not. Recently, fluid similar to jack oil or something like that, is leaking from the front of my top on each side. I am hoping that it is due to the grease that I sprayed on the joints of the top that the heat is somehow melting and causing to leak. Everything works perfectly, but this just started on both sides. Is there some kind of fluid in the top that I a unaware of? Maybe a seal is broken (but it is leaking on BOTH sides so not logical that both sides would fail at the same time). Any ideas about fluid in the top like that?

Hi Poppie, I think there are some hydraulic locking hooks. Try to find a Vario Roof diagram or manual.

Wow - thanks for the reply. I never realized how that worked. Makes sense to me now. After watching several videos about repairing that, I'm very concerned as that is a very expensive repair. I've had my 2006 SLK350 for 13+ years and it has been awesome. Thanks again for the reply.

You're welcome. 😁
By the way If you don't know already, There is a manual way of closing / opening the Roof. By moving some latches with an Allen key through some holes in the trim.

Fear the worst. There are pistons driveng your roof up and down and the liquid is under pressure. So this will go on until all fluid is drained. I had the local MB dealer quote me to replace all 4 cylinders for $2,700. Found another MB specialist who did it for less than $1,00 because only one cylinder needed to be replaced. Still steep. Good luck!
