SLK/R171: Did anyone get this letter?

Did anyone get this letter?

My dad got a letter from Mercedes-Benz Service Corporation, and it basically says they're implementing a Government mandated Rate Based Monitoring Program... they're doing emissions research and some other stuff on the SLK350. Here's a little excerpt:

"If your vehicle is selected, we will make arrangements with you to access your vehicle's electronics system with a computerized scan tool. The procedure will take approximately 5 minutes, and generally only requires access to the driver side compartment. You will receive a $50 gift card, which you may either use towards service or products.

Please be assured that our technicians will handle your car with the utmost of care. Further, Mercedes-Benz Service Corporation will assume full responsibility for the condition of your vehicle while job is performing."

Did anyone else get this letter? Did anyone actually let them do the research on their car?

I was reading through the threads in the SLK R171 section and some else has a problem almost like yours. The guy wrote that his salesman said his car would take longer shipment because they are adding something to it. I dunno what it is or if they are testing it, but I don't think they can force you to do that test. Thats why there is a gift card, that's to persuade you to do it.

Look through the thread of Shipment time or something like that,
I didn;t get a letter like that, Sorry that I can't help you much more.

Actually, I don't think there's anything wrong with the car. We took delivery of it last month, and it's an awesome car. I think they just wanna do research on it.

I just wanted to see if this was a scam or not; it doesn't seem like it, but I just want to make sure.
