What sort of toys were you thinking of?..... prior to dropping my SLK55 order in favour of the Boxster S I considered the two cars fairly equally specced as standard. The AMG had better seats (nicer leather and fully electric), cruise control and climate control but other than that I can't remember anything else that the Merc had that the Boxster S didn't.

I disagree. The SLK55 I looked at stickered for $67,000 and the dealer wouldn't budge on price. The Boxster S I ordered stickered for $59,000 and I paid $55,000. It has everthing the SLK has except for an automatic transmission (which I didn't want). My car also has 19" wheels which you can't get from the factory on an SLK.
