Went to the Drag Strip

In case you guys did not see this posting elsewhere on the site. A number of us went to the Drag Strip last weekend. The best time turned in at the track for the day was 11.6X @ ~119mph. This was in an SL65, beating all the dedicated drag cars running (they were limited to 6 cylinders in the runs for money).

This was my first run at the track. Best time of the day was 13.254@106.66. The track and conditions worsened throughout the day and my times got progressivly slower. I am convinced that will less humid weather, a little cooler, and more practice I could hit 12.8.

My car is stock except the removal of the resonator and the addition of the SL55 Y-pipe.

Best trap speed of the day was 107.12. It is a nice long track and one run I kept my foot planted to 120+. Always nice to legally be able to have fun.

Damn CLK55 I can smash Chappy's best times but the adreline gets the best of my right foot when we line up

I am 1 for 3, only winning the race from a roll But my best 1/4 mile time is what 3 secs faster?

Schiznick great video.

Don't you mean (point three) or .3 seconds faster? Compare with my best of 13.439 and your margin narrows to .2 seconds in the 1/4. Ease the throttle and you'll best me every time

I'm having trouble with the video download...I'll try from another desktop

Yes, I did mean .3. I was thinking your best time was slower than what you posted, my bad.

I seem to have more trouble controlling the throttle with auto than with a manual. The premature shifting out of first also makes me a little parinoid that if I do not get on it enough I will not reap the acceleration I should.

How about using it in "manual" mode -- have you tried that or your nerves are already too shot for it?

Manual mode just sucks. I just can't believe how slowly it shifts. Plus by the time I hit the 1-2 upshift the damage is done.

I can't imagine why you would use manual mode on a drag strip. In auto mode, it will shift when you hit redline and shift darn fast (ok, except your car from 1st to 2nd ). Ok, on the drag strip in manaul mode you can only screw up if you shift too early. If you are late, it will have already shifted for you when you hit red line (yes, even in manual mode).

I don't think manual mode sucks and it isn't slow for the little I've played with it. The only time it is slow for me is if I try to up shift too early and it gloats about how it is smarter than I am.

The SL65 is awesome. He wasn't even trying was he - launches look like he is pulling away from a traffic light
