4 valve v8..
So what's the consensus? When is the 4 valve V8 going to replace the current 5.5L AMG in the SLK55? 2007? 2008? Anyone with any more current news, beyond the mag speculations?

some details in this link
ML 350 with 268 hp and 258 lb-ft 3.5 liter V6 (M272) spring 05
ML 500 with 302 hp and 339 lb-ft 5.0 liter V8 (M113) spring 05
ML 450 with 325 hp and 369 lb-ft 4.6 liter V8 (M273) 2006
ML 550 with 382 hp and 405 lb-ft 5.5 liter V8 (M273) 2006
ML 63 AMG with 496 hp and 442 lb-ft 6.0 liter V8 AMG (M156) spring 06
M273 and M156 being the 4 valve V8s.
Interesting that the 4.6L 4 valve would produce almost the same torque as the current 5.5L 3 valve and i would have expect the 5.5L 4 valve to have a bit more HP... these figures aren't official so we will have to wait and see.

We're all waiting for the new V* to be introduced with the 221 S class.....as soon as it comes out in the S, it will be a mid year introduction for the 164 M class, and I suppose all of the other incumbent 113 engined vehicles.

My 2 Cents...
Upgrading the SLK55 to a 6.3 liter engine within the next year or even 2 seems to be a poor business decision as well as a vey uneconomical one.
This is the first year run of the SLK55. I am sure the payback period for the R&D costs on this car would be at least 2 years. Look how long the E55 as well as other models were on the market before the SLK32 was upgraded to the 5.5. I predict the 06 SLK55 will have very little change and the 07 models will possibly recieve a supercharger. The only reason MB would need to even add the supercharger would be market competition. With the way gas prices and supplies are headed, it is real hard to predict how car manufacturers will respond.
Upgrading the SLK55 to the 6.3 would most likely mean an upgrade to the whole lineup of Mercedes models. If you ask me, highly unlikely. You will see the higher end MB models recieve the upgrade before the SLK and C classes will recieve them.
I guess we will wait and see as my opinions can be proven wrong.
Cheers and best regards!

I would guess that they might not put the 6.3 liter engine in the SLK but they could easily put in the 5.5 4 valve engine. 382 hp and 405 torque would work and they would not have to redesin the chassis.
