June Car and Driver Review
The new June issue of Car and Driver features the SLK55 on the cover. The review is very complimentary to the car. Recent reviews of the C6 Corvette, the Ford Mustang have been very favorable to these cars, but this review is even more glowing than those reviews. A few things they say:
They say it is provides the "entire package" unlike other AMG cars.
They particularly heap praise on the transmission.
"hugely appealing"
"stupendous power"
"you cannot produce a better interior"
"seriously fast, snarling beast"
styling that seems awkward on the SLR looks terrific on the SLK55
Acceleration is 4.3 seconds from 0-60 - the quickest reported time I have seen for the car. This matches their 0-60 test time for a new C6 Corvette and the quarter mile time for the SLK55 is actually 1/10 of a second better. Amazing. (I have a C6).
chassis is much improved.
They do comment on jerky stops caused by downshifting of the transmission, stiff suspension and heave steering, but these (minor) issues are their only complaints.

I just got it today... they really seem to like the SLK55, 4.3 is very quick for that. Most times Ive seen reported have been in the ranges of 4.5-4.7. They also had the Lambo Muci Roadster and Ferrari F430 Spider... best issue in a while.

Not surprised at all...
I passed the break in period about a week ago and the acceleration in S mode is scary.
1600 miles in my first month and 0 problems! I absolutely love the car. The acceleration is addictive and the compliments I get on the car are abundant. It is the complete car at this point in my life as it fulfills all my needs and satisfies my performance desires. It's the perfect car for my early life crisis before I settle down to have kids. :v
Cheers to All!

SLK 55 AMG
I got the issue too. I was going to post the article up, but the size was to big. SO I put it on a yahoo photo album. Then I came back to put it on the site and mbworld.org was not working. I think you can downlaod the pictures and zoom up to read it. If you don't want to do that, just look at the first slide. It is the cover page of Car and Driver. Under the SLK 55 AMG, it say's 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. (What's really crazy is that the SL 55 AMG gets a 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, I am pretty sure they are working on a new SL though).

NOTKTS that is a great looking Lambo.I have a cubanite silver(I said in another post that it is tectite by mistake)posted on order, arriving in July.I 'd be happy if the colour looks half as good on the SLK.
SLK55 acceleration numbers look great, however,I can't seem to be able to read the article. The font appears too small.I didn't know there is a zoom function use in explorer?

However, on the "other" benz forum, they've posted readable size scans of the whole article.

Quotes
Here's some of the best quotes from the article -
"The 400-hp Corvette in a recent comparo ["It's-All-About-Me Roadsters," C/D, March 2005] outguns this SLK55 by 45 horsepower and 24 pound-feet of torque, and weighs 155 fewer pounds. Yet the Vette ties the SLK at 4.3 seconds to 60 mph and loses the quarter-mile race by a 10th, 12.8 versus 12.7 seconds. And that was a six-speed manual Corvette, not the wimpy four-speed automatic. Or consider this: The SLK55 matches its big brother E55 from 0 to 60 mph - despite the E55's 469 supercharged horsepower propelling fewer pounds per pony - and is just 0.2 second slower through the quarter-mile."
And this -
"AMG upsized the brakes by 0.4 inch in front and 1.6 inches in back, bringing the discs to 13.4 and 13.0 inches, respectively. Assisting in stopping power are two additional pistons in each caliper, making the count six in each front binder and four in the rears. But the best part is that there's no electrohydraulic wizardry dishing out the braking force. In practice, the brakes produced absolutely fade-free stops from 70 mph in an impressive 156 feet - better than any other vehicle we've tested in the current AMG lineup and even outdoing the $455,750 SLR McLaren. They're also 14 feet better than the Corvette, 19 better than the SLK350, and just three feet worse than the Porsche Boxster S."
And the last paragraph -
"Had it been in our March roadster comparo, the SLK55 would have been the most expensive entry but also the quickest through the quarter-mile. Its aggressive looks and upsized brakes would have worked in its favor, too. Moreover, most passersby were awed by the AMG roadster, wondering, "How much does that cost, $150,000?" Hmm, a Corvette never produced a similar effect."
And neither did a Boxster. The looks I receive now are huge and compare to any exotic out there, just wait until this magazine hits the newstands and people realize its a little speed demon too!

BigBully
Hey BklynBenz,
I am not sure if your sig is an actual picture of you showing us your two largest appendages, but lay off the kid you BigBully.
I agree he has some issues to resolve, but don't we all.

Actually I do know what I am talking about. You made a rash judgement about me based on how many posts are listed under my name.
I have been visiting and reading this forum for over two years.I have found many of your posts hilarious.I have followed the boastful threads of SLK55 and the lambasting he has received.I have also witnessed the guts he has had to keep posting.
My impression is that you and one or two others seem to want to punish him for having rich parents and not having the maturity to carefully consider prior to committing his thoughts to the internet.
I am unsure how rich your parents are, but it seems that you and SLK55 have somehting in common.
My point in posting, is that I think you should ease up with the ridicule.
No offence intended.

AMG Challenge experiance matches C&D, mostly...
I drove all the AMG '55 engine cars at California Speedway last month. My main reason was to figure out if I wanted to stick with the SLK55 I have on order to replace my 01 CLK55 or get an E55.
I am sticking with the SLK55. First, I just could not get comfortable in the E55. It felt awkward and slow. It doubless was not slow, but it felt like that to me.
The one big surprise for me was how the SL55 felt. Great. I figured it would be a heavy "boat," but I found it very nimble at autocross. It felt more powerful than the SLK55, which was no surprise, but I think their times would be about even due to the SLK55 being lighter.

You should read what you post before making silly statements.
