Has anyone seriously considered the Porsche 997 or 997s prior to purchasing SLK55?

The only reason I did not seriously consider Porsche is because everyone around here has one. My neighbor and his brother (my other neighbor) both have 911s. They almost seem more common place than the Ford Taraus (which says a lot in the States.)
I wanted something that would stand out.

I go back and forth on what I think of the SLK55. Not all that long ago I was thinking of trading the SLK32 for the 55. A couple of weeks ago I decided if I was going to get rid of the SLK32 anytime soon it would be for the 997 S.

Interesting comments.
CMiYC: You must live in a rich neighbourhood in a country that doesn't penalise you for owning an expensive car..in Aus the taxes on cars are horrific.I don't see that many porsches around where I live.
MB Fanatic: Have you actually ordered the 997 turbo? DId you consider the 996 twin turbo?
430: Have you driven the SLK55 , 997S or 997tt?

Nope, not yet. I have driven the SLK350 and have a great idea of how the SLK55 stacks up against the SLK32.
I have driven majority of the Porsches but not the 997's. A Porsche salesman I know keeps trying to get me to come on down and drive any of the cars (except the Carerra GT). I just have not had a chance. Either too much going on after work or too many meetings during work. Sometime in the next couple of weeks I will go for a drive.

I did and I still do. Is it only the money issue, I really don't know. Here, 997S priced USD 185K ; SLK55 with minimal options costs 119K ( about same price as paid my C55 ). For the money spent, in engine power / weight view point, the SLK55 has low $ per hp - so it wins. In terms of drawing attention as well as status, SLK55 wins - as someone already said "who cares to look at a 911, it's everywhere ranged from 1990-2005 ages". But if you drive a SLK55, you really only give a damn to the SL55 and nothing else. So, if I have the money to burn, I will take 997S. :p

hi Cntlaw
so you would buy the 997 if you had money to burn, but what if money was not an issue i.e. price of used 996tt or 996 and slk55 are in the same ballpark?
BTW I have always wondered what your name stands for?https://mbworld.org/forums/newreply....e=1&p=1172800#
