new v8
And its not even AMG'd yet....
Has anyone heard if it will migrate to the SLK55?
If it doesn't then it must be for marketing reasons they don't want the little SLK to outgun its bigger brethren.

If the new V8 is breathed on by AMG it may well produce even more power
400bhp in a stock SLK anyone?
But right now we're in a position that the stock smaller V8 outguns the AMG 5.4.
It strikes me there are "first-division" AMG and merc engines and "second-division ones". First division in SL55, E55, CLS55 S class etc, and second-division in C, CLK and SLK.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
This would not be too surprising. Look at the 2006 C-class. C230 gets a 2.5L V6 and the C280 gets a 3.0L V6.
1) They will continue to keep the current 3V 5.5L V8 for the next 4-5 years?
2) They will get the upcoming 6.3L AMG engine in the next 1-2 years?
3) They will get an AMG version of the new 4V 5.5L V8 (like the old C43)?
None of the above makes sense to me!?! But if I had to pick one I would say an AMG version of the new engine (410 bhp?). I can not see MB producing two 5.5L engines in parallel for long. And I don't think the 6.3L would fit in and besides that would make them faster than the more expensive S, E, SL...
Anybody with a crystal ball out there? I am just curious. Even though I am saving my pennies for a 911T.:v

So, it seems me we have a 5.4 AMG producing 367bhp and a non AMG 5.5 litre producing 380bhp. (euro outputs)
So the block is being bored out to 6.3 for the AMG version of the 5.5.
I'd say the question actually hinges on the future of the AMG 5.4, how long will that survive?
Mercedes spends to much time "marketing" this lot, when they should be going all out for the best possible product, not the best possible product that doesn't embarrass our larger products. Just my two-penneth!
Here is my take on what MB will do about their future AMG models.
I think it makes sense that ALL of their engines will become 4 valve designs. I think it is unlikely that the C (and the SLK) will get the upcoming 6.3L AMG engine because they don't want a C/SLK class to outgun their higher E and S AMG models.
My guess is that they will retune/modify the upcoming 4 valve V8 (rumoured 5.5L) 388HP engine which will come out in the new S class and put it into the future C and SLK AMG models. I expect output to be over 400HP to compete with the Audi RS4 and upcoming M3.
We know that the 2006 C55 and SLK55 will be unchanged from the 2005 models. The W203 C-class will be replaced for MY 2008. I wonder whether they will keep the existing 5.4L 3 valve V8 until then.
