need SLK55's to sign up for San Diego meet !

please don't consider this a cross-posting.
It's just that, when we organize meets, many people always post afterwards when all the pictures come out saying:
"aw shucks, I did not even know there was a meet / sorry I missed it / when was this posted ? / how come I didn't hear about it / etc...." Many people do not check the "EVENTS & GATHERINGS" section.

so that everyone in the R171 section knows, I am organizing the
2nd Annual San Diego MB / AMG Meet
to be held Saturday JULY 9th
at the ENCINITAS Coaster/Amtrak Station in Encinitas, CA (not all the way down to San Diego)
Meet time is at 2pm but you're welcome to show up early.
There are a couple of caravans / cruises being organized from L.A. & O.C. Counties.
So far there are over 45 MB's / AMG's signed up. We need some SLK55 ////AMG representation, however. Please spread the word...

Plus there's another whole batch of classic / vintage MB's coming from the MBCA.
As a special highlight, this meet will be showcasing some EXTRA special cars:

- CEC's LORINSER CLS500
- the evosport posse of AMG machinery
- UNIMOG's (yes, MB trucks ! )
- HAMMER ////AMG
- SMART car
- E55 ////AMG Wagon
- super-charged CLK500
- my Sport Coupé

- and much more....

activities planned include: Professional Photo-Shoot / meet & greet / no-host dinner after the meet for those who want to stick around / caravan-cruise back to O.C. & L.A.

You're driving your SLK down from Canada???? My heart is faint thinking of the mileage :overwhelmed:

That's why I bought it

I'm from Canada, what is really more appealing than a roof down drive down the California coast?

Uh, somewhere where there isn't stop n go traffic, smog, including a layer of dirt on your car just driving for 20 minutes, ...

Well, I suppose you and I buy a car for a different reason. I mean, if this was an SLR or some sort of exotic, I may agree with you, but come on now. Buy it, get in, drive.

2006 SLK 55

Top down, West Coast, California Highway 1 cruising

I did exactly this last week. Flew to LA, rented a Sebring convertible, headed up to Monterey on the 5 for time-saving, then spent a couple days cruising top down along the coast back to LA. During the mid-week there was very little traffic. The air was pristine, foggy and chilly at times, sunny, fresh and cool the rest of the time. Made lots of stops along the way to see the sea lions, seals, elephant seals, birdlife. The only thing that would have been better would have been in a new SLK 55.

BTW, I saw only one SLK 55 the whole week. It was pulling out of a parking space down in Solana Beach on Saturday, July 3rd. I tried to turn around to get a better look but it was GONE too quickly.

I had to fly back too soon to see the San Diego meet up on July 9th. How did it go?? Anyone get some photos? Please post!!
