I had a 55 for a 5 day test drive and the best I managed was 12mpg (UK miles/gallon) which is close to 10mpg in US gallons...... I did cane the **** off the car mind you so take that as a worst case scenario!

When I first got my car, I was getting 12 mpg, but since then, I have improved gas consumption by 5-10. It really depends how and where you drive. If you're in a lot of stop and go traffic, don't expect to get more than say 15 mpg.

I generally don't drive the car hard at all. In typical suburban driving, I've been getting right around 20 MPG, right about where I would expect given the EPA estimates. On long trips at expressway speeds, I've experienced better than 25 MPH. If you drive the car hard, look out...you can easily cut your mileage in half with this engine.

In heavy stop and go traffic I get about 14-16, cruising around town and not a lot of heavy acceleration, about 17-19, on the highway, up to 26. On a recent trip up the coast from L.A. to San Francisco with a lot of mixed conditions, I averaged 23.5.

Only have just over 500 miles on my car so all the driving has been pretty conservative due to the break-in period.

70/30 highway/city driving and the computer shows 18.6mpg since day one.

It can be as low as 10 or 11 liters per 100kilometers on the highway (22mpg), and as high as 18 or 19 when abusing her in the city.

Average is about 12.9liters per 100 (18mpg?)

Under 14mpg in the city. But I like to punch it, a lot. Don't have enough consecutive highway mileage to have a number.

Your mpg must be a different calculation that US miles per gallon, right?

The rating (in US mpg) is 16 city and 22 Highway.

I can't see how you could get anywhere near 29 mpg (US) going 80mph. I sure don't, at even 65mph.

Also my daily drive (nothing but stop and go) and with a pretty heavy foot is about 14 to 14.5 mpg.

Steve-p's 28.9mpg is UK gallons but thats still very good as it equals 24mpg using US gallons...... I guess that initial 750 miles was mainly motorway driving while being very gentle on the gas?

Not that gentle! Although I did stay within the 4,500 rpm / 85 mph limit for break in. It was about 75% autobahn and 25% normal roads and towns. I did 750 miles starting with a full tank, then filled up once en route. The fuel light came on just at the end.
