High Octane

Now that I have the Kleemann chip, will higher octane fuel help performance?

lol Funny i was just talking about this on the E55 thread. The quick answer to your question is yes! It will make a difference. At least that's how i felt. Go with either 101, 104 or 110. How's your car performing now?

Yes assuming the kleeman ECU is setup to adapt automatically.

JamE55, I know
I saw your post and had to ask here!

SLK55AMG, so you're saying it will adapt?

Dinko,

Once you put some higher octane gas let the car idle for about 10-15mins and then put some miles on it and you should feel a difference. Worked for me!

I'll give it a try, thanks!

I don't know for sure but I'd be very surprised if the ECU wouldn't adapt automatically..... most modern sports car ECUs will change the engine timing based on the type of fuel used.

The difference between 95 and 99RON fuel is pretty obvious so I'm sure you'll be able to feel the change when you try it...... most ECUs take upto 15 miles to adapt to a new octane rated fuel so don't expect an immediate change.

I could possibly see the benefits on a FI car, but my stock CLK55 saw no improvement in performance using 100 Octane unleaded.

After you buy the blower you'll feel like you've bought another car! Trust me!

Gains will be modest unless you get octane specific custom programming that really advances the timing. This type of programming is usually switchable on the fly so you can go back to pump gas with no detonation. I have the APR 104 in my stage 3 TT. Don't know if it's yet available for our SLKs.

This is what I was driving at. What are, realistically, the gains using $6.50 (100 unleaded) racing gas on a non-forced-induction motor?

Any before/after dyno pulls?

This is true on some cars but i doubt it on Mercedes. If Mercedes ECU can fully re-adapt because of the higher octane, then why Mercedes need to have 3-4 fuel and timing stages set-up in the ECU? Higher octane fuel allow you to run higher boost.
