Tire Pressure

Just wondering what everyone uses to see what their tire pressure is. Recently i've been noticing my tires looking a little deflated, so I wanted to know how much air I should put in them. I need to check the pressure first, right? I remember someone said keep it around 32 or so.

I have 19's and keep them between 32 - 33 in the front and 35 - 36 in the back. Same with my stock 18" wheels.

I believe that if you run 35-36 in the rear, you will quickly find the centers worn excessively. That's been my experience. I believe that the recommended tire pressures from MB are established by their legal staff (low front pressures and higher in the rear to promote understeer which is generally considered "safer".) They are not concerned about tire wear or a more nimble and enjoyable setup.

For street use, I recommend 32 psi all the way around, perhaps even a bit higher in the front, considering all the weight on the front wheels. For track events, I recommend 40 psi in the front and 36 psi in the rear, based on tire temperatures taken on my 55. For more details, see my post at BenzWorld at

...so I have not read your linked post yet, but that is pretty surprising to jump pressure that much. I attended a Pro-formance track day a couple of years ago, they specifically asked us to bleed a couple of psi off each tire before we got to the track, the thought was since it was a little rainy/cool (60F) it would allow our tires to warm up a bit quicker

wow, slk55'r, nice prev post on track stats, looks like that was a left handed track

So the level of driving you reference in your post, along with 110F temp, would stand to reason that my comparison of a few casual drivers taking their first track day is quite a bit different and my post really has no value

Cheers
